Revisiting hole 6
I am heading back to Maple Hill on Friday to play the blue layout, which is long and difficult. But it is fun, and I am hoping to improve on my score from last year. I may be jinxing myself, but I certainly hope to do better than my worst score ever of 9 strokes on hole 6 (recounted here and drawn below).

I have also continued to experiment with pencil-and-paper scorekeeping for some rounds. Here’s the paper version of that Maple Hill hole 6 disaster. The circles with big Xs are out-of-bounds with penalty strokes (each slash is a stroke):
More symbols!
A couple of holes I played (badly) recently reminded me that I need some more symbols, to account for things like drop zones (when they are called for after an out-of-bounds shot) and proximity to the basket when on the green. I decided to use symbols similar to what PDGA Live uses for score details for pro tournaments where they use scorers for shot-by-shot scoring (though they do not show the path of the disc, just the result).
Here’s a short hole that has an island green. My first shot made it around a mandatory tree, but did not make it to the green. So I had to go to the drop zone (with a penalty shot). DZ seems like an obvious symbol for the drop zone:
Here is a hole that lends itself to a horizontal layout, because it takes a big right turn off the tee. After an out-of-bounds throw off the tee, I re-teed (throwing 3) and landed in the fairway. My fourth shot landed in circle 2 (between 10 and 20 meters from the basket). I use two circles to indicate a circle-2 lie. The fifth shot missed, but the small circle indicates that it is parked near the basket.
There may be more symbols required, but this should cover most situations.
